Government announces Tier 4 restrictions for Sandwell

The government has this afternoon announced that Sandwell, along with the rest of the West Midlands, will enter into Tier 4 coronavirus restrictions from tomorrow.

This will mean stricter government restrictions will be in place until further notice.

Councillor Maria Crompton, Sandwell Council Deputy Leader, said: “We must now follow the new government restrictions and stay at home. Do not mix with other households apart from within your support bubble.

“We want everyone to stay safe so please do not take any unnecessary risks – stay home wherever possible and certainly avoid busy shops.

“Visitors to our home represent a significant risk, especially to any older adults who are more likely to become severely ill or die if infected.

“COVID-19 can be a fatal illness and it is vital we all do what we can to stop the spread and in particular protect our most vulnerable residents.”

Anyone with symptoms must get tested straight away and ensure they self-isolate for the full 10 days.

Sandwell’s Director of Public Health Dr Lisa McNally said: “I urge people in Sandwell to take this situation extremely seriously and to follow these new Tier 4 restrictions.

“Stay home as much as possible and do not have visitors except for carers.”

Details of the restrictions are available on the government website:

We wish you a safe New Year.

Kind regards
