Don’t let sight loss be a barrier to trying new things, going to new places and making new friends.
SocialEyes
Visually impaired, a family member, friend or helper of a person living with sight loss and want to do more adventurous or social activities?
Our SocialEyes Group is for adults of any age.
Members have recently enjoyed a trip to Alton Towers, an activities day at the Sandwell Valley, a guided tour of Haden Hill House museum and a pub quiz. Coming up over the next three months is: a night at the races, coach trip to Clarks Shopping Village, Christmas afternoon tea in Birmingham and the Dick Whittington pantomime which is a audio described and will also offer you a pre-show touch tour. SocialEyes wants to try new things, so all ideas are welcome.
Get the details of our past and forthcoming activities in our SocialEyes Bulletin.
Active 60
Over 50 and want to do more activities to keep you active for longer? Statistics show that people who are active in body and mind as they approach their 60s stay healthier and happier for longer. SVI’s Active 60 group meet once monthly to either go out for a meal or trip or meet at the SVI base for a chat and other fun things like quizzes, themed events and more.
Active 60 members pay for their trips and events which are subsidised from SVI A60 funds.
Contact us to be added to the Active 60 mailing list.
Women’s group
A monthly meet up for SVI’s women members to chat, learn from each other and listen to guest speakers who will give them information and support on women’s health and wellbeing. Meetings are usually at our base at West Bromwich Town Hall.
Over the last few months, women have taken part in reflexology sessions, pampered themselves with beauty treatments and refreshed their knitting and crocheting skills. Every few months, women choose a ‘treat’ event and recently our ladies have been on a visit to Ashwood Nursery with lunch and will be enjoying a pre‑Christmas meal as we make a much requested return to the Harvester.
- Evening Women’s Group – meets the first Monday evening of each month from 5pm to 7.30pm.
- Daytime Women’s Group – meets the third Monday of each month from 11.00am to 1.30pm.
Note: for special trips and events, such as afternoon tea, dates and times are likely to change and fees are made for some activities and pamper treatments.
The Women’s Group was first set up with a Healthy Sandwell Micro Grant.
Men’s group
Sessions take place on the first Monday of every month from 2pm to 3.30pm. They can be at our base at West Bromwich Town Hall or out at other venues. Recently the group have played indoor cricket at Portway Lifestyle Centre.
The men have lots of ideas about what they would like to do, including walking, football, fishing and cooking tips.
This group is funded by a Healthy Sandwell Micro Grant.
