On Tuesday, 18 August we had a wonderful surprise at our weekly Showdown session at Portway Lifestyle Centre, Oldbury.
We were playing Showdown when four players from West Bromwich Albion joined us. The players were Connor Townsend, Max O’Leary, Matt Ingram and Jimmy J. Morgan. They were really interested in Showdown and were very impressed with how we played the game.
We would like to thank the players for popping in to see us as we know how busy they are. It was very much appreciated. As we are ‘Baggies’ fans it made our day!
Showdown is a fast-moving, interactive sport that’s a mix of table tennis and air hockey. It’s specially designed for blind and visually impaired players — but the best part is anyone can play and everyone has fun. Expect laughter, friendly competition, and a chance to try something a little different. Why not come along and see what it’s all about?
SVI runs Showdown sessions at Portway Lifestyle Centre on Tuesdays (2pm to 4pm) and Thursdays (10am to 12noon). We welcome new players, so if you are interested, contact the SVI office on 0121 525 4810 or email info@sandwellvisuallyimpaired.org.uk.
Our sessions are free to members who live in Sandwell. However if you live outside Sandwell and attend any session at Portway Lifestyle Centre activities will now incur a charge. If you receive a disability benefit such as PIP, you will need to register this at Portway’s reception and buy an annual concession card at £15. This will give you a 50% discount on the session charge. (This is a condition of Portway and SVI will not receive any of the money in these transactions.)
