Volunteers wanted for group walks

Sighted guide walks with visually impaired woman and guide dog in Dartmouth Park

SVI urgently needs volunteers to spend an hour or two per each week help out at our new group walks. As a ‘sighted guide’ you would guide our blind and partially sighted members around some of our local parks. You would ensure that the person was able to walk safely, alerting them to hazards and describing what’s going on around you. It’s a great way to get some fresh air and exercise, make new friends and support your local community.

Walks take place in:

  • Lightwoods Park, Bearwood, Tuesdays at 12 noon.
  • Dartmouth Park, West Bromwich, Thursdays at 12 noon.

We are also planning a walk in Haden Hill Park for Wednesdays at 11.30am.

Volunteers would be shown how to guide a visually impaired person and can claim travel expenses.

There is usually a social opportunity afterwards, with light refreshments in a suitable, Covid-secure venue.

Contact us to find out more. You are welcome to come along and give it a try before you make a commitment.
