As part of our Unlocking Potential programme, funded by Esmée Fairbairn EPIC, we are pleased to invite SVI members and volunteers to two upcoming workshops.

These sessions will provide valuable skills, practical advice, and opportunities to connect with others.

Effective Campaigning for Successful Outcomes
Monday 8 June | 10am to 12.30pm
SVI Common Room

We are delighted to welcome Sarah Gayton and Sarah Leadbetter from the Federation of the Blind.

Both speakers are highly respected campaigners with a strong record of success at both local and national level. They played an important role in campaigns to stop ticket office closures at train stations.

They have also worked hard to raise awareness of issues affecting blind and visually impaired people. These include pavement parking, street obstructions, shared spaces, and the growing number of e-scooters and cycles on pavements.

During this workshop, they will share their knowledge and experience. They want to help us to save our service and will be sharing their knowledge and expertise on how to present a united campaign that will help us to fight the proposed council funding cuts.

Places are limited due to lack of space in our common room, so please book early.

Call us on 0121 525 4810. Leave a message and we will get back to you as soon as we can.

Introduction to Becoming a Volunteer Telephone Befriender
Monday 6 July | 10am to 12.30pm
SVI Common Room

We are introducing our peer-to-peer telephone befriending scheme.

This training and awareness session is a great opportunity to find out more about what being a befriender involves. You will hear about the practical side of the role and what to expect.

You will hear from an experienced befriender. And will learn some important do’s and don’ts to help you become a supportive and effective volunteer.

If you would like to find out more about the befriending scheme, or book a place on the workshop, please contact the office. 0121 525 4810.

Places are limited due to space in the common room.

A light brunch will be provided at both workshops, so please let us know if you plan to attend.

We look forward to seeing you there.
