Freefall dancers practice their ballet movement in the studio

We’re delighted to invite our members and friends to an exclusive SVI immersive dance event in collaboration with Birmingham Royal Ballet (BRB). “Freefall Explored” will take place on Monday, 26 February, 10.30am to 12.30pm at Birmingham Hippodrome.

Lead by Lee Fisher, Freefall’s Artistic Director and Co-Founder, you are invited to move with Freefall dancers, accompanied by live piano music spanning from Bach to Cuban Beats. You will be invited to explore dance positions at your own pace. Participation is always optional. There will an audio description of a life sized photo from Freefall’s 21st Anniversary Exhibition and plenty of opportunities to ask questions. SVI volunteer Sarah-Ann will bring her mini mannequin so you can feel the positions. Guide dogs are welcome.

BRB’s Senior Marketing Executive, Melissa Evans told us more. She said: “Freefall is made up of 10 dancers all with learning disabilities. Their beautiful individual expression of movement and passionate commitment to performing keeps them coming back to Birmingham Hippodrome for their annual performances.

“Freefall will lead you in some dance positions for you to try for yourself if you would like to join in, this will not be compulsory. There will also be some audio description of highlights from Freefall’s 21st Anniversary Exhibition, which runs until Saturday 2 March in various parts of the Birmingham Hippodrome. You will not want to miss this exciting new event with Birmingham Royal Ballet and Birmingham Hippodrome!

“After lifting the lid into the captivating work of Freefall and Birmingham Royal Ballet you’ll want to come and experience an extraordinary ballet for yourself. Details of upcoming access performances will be shared as part of the workshop so you don’t miss out.”

Freefall is in its 21st year and ‘Freefall Explored’ is part of BRBs commitment to making the 21st Anniversary Exhibition accessible to everyone.
