A Grand afternoon at the theatre

In late January, SVI members enjoyed a Saturday matinee visit to the Grand Theatre, Wolverhampton to see the acclaimed musical ‘Six’. The afternoon began with a relaxed gathering at the Moon Under Water pub opposite the theatre, where members had a light lunch and refreshments before heading over the road.

SVI member feels the studs on a red and black leather effect and faux fur costume to be worn by one of the six wives.

Ahead of the performance, the group took part in a touch tour, giving everyone the opportunity to experience the costumes at close hand. Theatre staff were welcoming, informative, and attentive throughout, helping to create an inclusive and enjoyable experience for all.

The performance itself was lively, engaging, and full of energy. With its concert-style format and outstanding vocals, Six brought the stories of Henry VIII’s six wives to life in a modern and entertaining way. The show was very well received, with members thoroughly enjoying the music, atmosphere, and storytelling.

SVI member Stevie shared her experience:

“We really enjoyed the day. It was Mom’s and my first touch tour and we genuinely felt like VIPs (Very Important People!). The staff were so attentive, and being able to see the costumes up close was a real highlight.”

This successful outing also highlights SVI’s strong user-led approach. The event was organised by SVI member Lisa, who is now taking the lead on coordinating some of our activities. Her efforts helped make the day both enjoyable and well organised, and reflect the value of members shaping and leading SVI experiences.

Sandra, SVI Development Worker said: “I’m really pleased that Lisa has volunteered to take the lead on SVI’s SocialEyes and Active 60 activities. This is a true reflection of SVI’s user-led ethos. Lisa is keen to organise more theatre trips and other events. Watch this space!”

If you would like to take part in future theatre trips or social events, please keep an eye on our activity letters and emails, website and Facebook or contact the SVI office for more information. We warmly welcome members who would like to get involved and help shape upcoming activities as well as attend them.

(Thanks to Lisa and Stevie for their contributions to this article.)
