Sandwell Talking News listener feedback

Some anonymised feedback from our listeners. They were asked to let us know what they thought about the Sandwell Talking News since all our new volunteers have come on board.

A listens on a USB through the boombox and looks forward to seeing the wallet arrive. The new voices are a lovely addition and nice to know new people have stepped in to help. He says during lockdown the Talking News is giving him a three-and-a-half-hour break from the boredom, so he really appreciates it. He loves everything on there. He doesn’t feel that he has a favourite part of the Talking News as he enjoys all of it and he can’t think of anything else we could include.

B enjoys the Talking News that she receives on a USB. She said the lovely new voices have been a pleasure. She looks forward to the Talking News and listening to it breaks the day up. She doesn’t have a favourite part as she enjoys all of it. She can’t think of anything else we could put on there.

C first listened to the Talking News when he was living in a nursing home. He listened on a USB and the day he moved he called to make sure he would still receive it at his new address. He now listens on a CD. He likes the new people and his favourite parts are listening to all the local news and what’s going on. He doesn’t feel he would like anything else as we cover plenty.

D listens to the Talking News on a USB. She said it was nice to hear new voices. It’s a lovely new mix and lovely to know they have people have put themselves out to lend a hand during this time. She said she looks forward to receiving it and calls us if it doesn’t arrive.

E said it’s a lovely break during lockdown to hear different people. She enjoys listening to all of it apart from the scaffolding news at the beginning but understands it’s needed by some so it’s a great thing. She loves the music and often listens to those parts twice. She likes Peter White part In Touch, she thinks it’s very good and she also likes it when we put a series on and listens to this twice as well. She would love to hear classical and orchestra music too.

F loves the Talking News. She listens to it on a USB along with the boombox we provided. When her power lead was broken we managed to pop a replacement through her letterbox as she didn’t want to miss listening to that week’s news. She loves the new readers as she said it’s always nice to hear new people with different voices and the way they read. She firmly believes it has helped her in lockdown. Receiving that bit of normality and still being able to hear about local news – she enjoys that part the best knowing what’s going on locally. She doesn’t feel we could cover anything else that she would need, as we seem to cover a lot already. F said we make it so easy to listen and to return the wallets. She would like to thank all for our hard work.

G listens both on a USB and on Alexa if the post is late. The wide variety of readers is lovely and seems to keep her more alert whilst listening. She said it’s been nice during lockdown to still hear what’s happening and keeping in touch. She loved Kate’s nature talk and when we have had children doing something it’s been lovely. She said that it would be nice to hear of the season’s fashions – on what to wear and colours that are in fashion. She would like to thank and send appreciation to everyone for keeping it going in these hard times.

H listens to the Talking News on a USB. H says that the new readers are a lovely change and the thought of them supporting us is very good. H said it’s helped break his week up listening to the TN during lockdown. He feels we cover all that’s needed and couldn’t think of what else he would like to hear as we cover such a huge genre of topics. “Keep up the great work”.

Sandra, SVI Development worker, who is also a listener, said: “I generally listen on USB but sometimes listen on the Alexa. I love the new readers but also enjoy listening to the old familiar voices. It’s a great mix of news and magazine type articles. I am loving Sophie’s audio-described nature tours – the way that she describes it I feel that I am there. I also love AJ’s light exercise which has helped me keep fit while working from home. As the Development Worker I listen every week to find out information that we may have missed and local support services which I then pass onto the office to use in our information resource. There is so much that I like about it that I am finding it hard to say what my favourite bits are!”
