SUMMARY:Oldbury Sight Loss Support Group
DESCRIPTION:Members have told us that they would like local support groups to be set up. Thanks to a grant from the Esmee Fairbairn EPIC programme\, over the next three months we will be launching town based groups.  Local support groups will take place once every six weeks in your town. We are looking for members who would like to volunteer to work with our staff and sighted volunteers to take the lead on these groups. \nOur first group in Oldbury will be launched on Thursday 6 February from 10.30am to 12noon at Oldbury Library\, Jack Judge House\, Halesowen Street\, Oldbury  B69 2AJ. \nCome and join our friendly team to find out about help available\, local services and more.

SUMMARY:Tea and Toast
DESCRIPTION:Pop in to our base at West Bromwich Town Hall on the first Wednesday morning of each month from 10:30am to 12 noon to enjoy a slice of toast\, other tasties and a cuppa over a chat with your SVI friends. Help is on hand from our staff who can offer support with anything you need to get sorted. We have guests from other organisations who will tell you about their services and how they can help you. \nPhotographer and SVI member Karren Visser will share her new arts project in collaboration with Multistory. This will explore sensory photography and challenge traditional ways of seeing. Throughout 2020 Karren will be running workshops with people and communities in Sandwell and the project will result in a multi-sensory exhibition and launch event in Summer 2020. \nThere will be lots of ways to be involved in this project\, including photographing\, being photographed\, sharing your experiences of living in Sandwell with sight impairment and taking part in creative workshops led by Karren. \nIf you are interested in getting involved with the photography project\, you can come along to a meeting directly after the tea and toast session. This will be in Committee Room C at the Town Hall.

SUMMARY:Walking Football
DESCRIPTION:SVI Men’s Group meet at Portway Lifestyle Centre on the fourth Monday of every month where they take part in VI walking football. \nIn walking football everyone is blindfolded\, including those with sight loss. We play the game at a slower pace! Instead of running you just walk. We have a sighted person there and play with a ball which makes a noise when it is in motion. The sighted person claps to indicate where the ball is when it stops. If you need to know where you are on the pitch\, the sighted person will tell you. They tap both sides of the goal post to indicate where the goals are. \nIt’s a gentle form of exercise where you are guaranteed to have a laugh! \nThere is £1 charge per session to cover refreshments.

DESCRIPTION:Our first New Year activity for Active 60 is  in traditional Scottish style.  We invite all of you Active 60 lads and lassies to join us for a Robbie Burns lunch at the Court of Requests in Oldbury\, Church St\, Oldbury B69 3AF on Wednesday 22 January. A table has been booked for us at 12 noon. \nIt would be lovely if you could wear your Scots kilts to celebrate the occasion in true Scottish style. You can partake of haggis\, neeps and tatties\, a tasty Scottish burger or just order from the standard menu. Please note; you will need to buy your own lunch and drinks for this event. \nPlease go direct to the Court of Request if you know where it is\, otherwise\, if you plan to travel on public transport from West Bromwich Bus Station and you are not sure of the way\, we can meet you at the usual place opposite the Billiard Hall near to West Bromwich Bus Station at 11.30am and travel with us to Oldbury. \nPlease ring the SVI office on 0121 525 4810 to book your place. DESCRIPTION:Spin ‑ Coach by Colour – 9.30am to 10.15am – work out as you peddle your exercise bike to the beat of the music as you are prompted by the coach to change resistance and speed. \nGym – 10am to12noon buddy support will be on hand to help you safely get the best out of Portway’s gym equipment like the treadmill\, cross trainer\, rowing machines and weights. \nBody pump ‑ a dumbbell weighted workout to music. Session starts at 12.15 pm for a 45 minute class and these classes will be free for those holding a Portway Pass. \nVI archery ‑ bring out the Robin Hood in your soul as you test your skills with a bow and arrow. Join us from 1.00pm to 2.00 pm. There is a £2.50 fee per session for this activity to help cover costs of our archery instructor. \nCan’t do a Tuesday morning or want to work out on Thursdays as well\, then join our sessions at Portway on Thursday afternoons from 2.00pm to 4.00pm in the gym and spin from 2.00pm to 2.45pm (subject to availability) \nMany of our activities at Portway are free at certain times of the day for visually impaired Sandwell residents who are Fair Access to Care eligible\, are in receipt of a disability benefit such as DLA\, PIP or Attendance Allowance. If you wish to attend the gym out of these periods then you can buy concessionary cards to give a discount on classes.  If you live outside of Sandwell you are very welcome to join us but fees will apply.

DESCRIPTION:Made a new year resolution to get fit? Come along to our various fitness activities and make new friends too. \nSpin ‑ Coach by Colour – 9.30am to 10.15am – work out as you peddle your exercise bike to the beat of the music as you are prompted by the coach to change resistance and speed. \nGym – 10am to12noon buddy support will be on hand to help you safely get the best out of Portway’s gym equipment like the treadmill\, cross trainer\, rowing machines and weights. \nBody pump ‑ a dumbbell weighted workout to music. Session starts at 12.15 pm for a 45 minute class and these classes will be free for those holding a Portway Pass. \nVI archery ‑ bring out the Robin Hood in your soul as you test your skills with a bow and arrow. Join us from 1.00pm to 2.00 pm. There is a £2.50 fee per session for this activity to help cover costs of our archery instructor. \nCan’t do a Tuesday morning or want to work out on Thursdays as well\, then join our sessions at Portway on Thursday afternoons from 2.00pm to 4.00pm in the gym and spin from 2.00pm to 2.45pm (subject to availability) \nMany of our activities at Portway are free at certain times of the day for visually impaired Sandwell residents who are Fair Access to Care eligible\, are in receipt of a disability benefit such as DLA\, PIP or Attendance Allowance. If you wish to attend the gym out of these periods then you can buy concessionary cards to give a discount on classes.  If you live outside Sandwell you are very welcome to join us but fees will apply.

DESCRIPTION:Your friends at the Active 60 group are pleased to invite you to Santa’s turkey sandwich party. \n(This event is for members aged 50 and over\, although their younger family members and friends are also welcome.) \nJoin Santa for turkey sandwiches and other seasonal treats\, followed by mince pies and cake. Tea and coffee can be purchased or you can partake of something stronger from the licensed bar. \nSanta and his cheeky helpers have promised to bring a small gift for everyone\, so he’s bound to know who has been naughty or nice! \nChristmas tunes\, games\, a raffle and pass the parcel will make the afternoon a real Christmas cracker!
