Healthy Lifestyles activities

Join your SVI friends at one or more of our healthy lifestyle activities. We’ve got exercise indoors and outdoors, both gentle and more strenuous depending on what you feel like.  These sessions will help you get fit and improve your health. With support on hand if you need it.

(Please note: If you are an SVI member who doesn’t live in Sandwell, you will have to pay Portway Lifestyle Centre to attend any of the sessions that take place there. You may be entitled to an annual concession card, costing £15, if you  are on a disability benefit, such as PIP. This will give you a 50% reduction on the session charge. )

Gym (at Portway Lifestyle Centre)

Join us for a gym work out. Every Tuesday morning from 10am to 12noon at Portway Lifestyle Centre. Break a sweat and boost your energy with fellow SVI members! From treadmills and bikes to weights, there’s something for everyone – and plenty of support to help you along the way. It’s a fun, social way to stay fit and active all year round, rain or shine.

Showdown (at Portway Lifestyle Centre)

Every Tuesday afternoon at 2pm and Thursday morning 10am to 12noon at Portway Lifestyle Centre.

Following the success of our team’s first competition experience, we are holding more Showdown sessions. Come and join us for this fast-moving, interactive sport similar to table tennis and air hockey. Designed for blind and visually impaired people but anyone can play. Contact the SVI office for more information.

Line dancing (at Dartmouth Central Club)

Line dancing at Dartmouth Central Club. Ray and Jean, our fantastic line dance instructors, will lead the dancing on Tuesday afternoons from 1pm to 2.30pm at Dartmouth Central Club, West Bromwich. Line dancing is a great way to get fit and meet new and old friends. Please call the office to let us know that you are coming and to make sure that the session is on that week.

Park walks

Dartmouth Park walk

A group of SVI members, some with long canes, stand in a group by a pond in Dartmouth Park. There is a greyhound dog with them, which is a pet not a guide dog.
A happy group of SVI walkers at Dartmouth Park.

Walks will take place every Thursday from 12noon to 2.30pm. Meet us by the Dartmouth Park War Memorial, from where we will take a leisurely walk around the park and Sandwell Valley, stopping off for refreshments. Please tell us you are coming so we can make sure we have enough sighted guides.
