Health and fitness sessions from April

We are delighted to let you know that our Active Black Country and Sports England funding has been extended until the end of May 2022.  This means that we can carry on offering our full programme of health and fitness sessions for SVI members and add some new ones.  All sessions will be carried out in line with Covid health and safety guidance. If you haven’t been along and given at least one of the below free activities a try, it’s not too late.

Monday 3pm to 4pm – Swimming and pool activities at West Bromwich Leisure Centre, Moor Street, West Bromwich B70 7AZ.  Join us in the training pool for a swim or just a splash about. SVI has sole use of the pool at this time and Covid safe procedures are in place.

Tuesday 10am to 12 noon – Assisted gym sessions at Portway Lifestyle Centre, Newbury Lane, Oldbury B69 1HE. We have our very own instructor to assist us to move around the gym safely and to get best use out of the equipment.  For those of you who like to exercise as part of a group, you can give Bodypump, a weighted exercise to music session, a try from 11am to 12 noon each week.

Tuesday from 1pm to 2.30pm ‑ Line dancing at the Dartmouth Central Club, Devonshire Drive, West Bromwich B71 4AA. Ray our line dance caller will show you what steps to take to get you in the swing. Join us for a fun way to keep fit and move around. Come along whether you are a beginner or someone returning to this popular session. If you plan to attend the gym session on Tuesday morning, free transport can be provided to get you from the gym to the line dancing in good time.

Wednesday 1pm to 2pm – Aquafit and water relaxation sessions in the therapy pool at Portway Lifestyle Centre. Get fit with water-based exercise or relax in the lovely warmth of the therapy pool.  These sessions are very popular, so call us to add your name to the list straight away.

Change of time! Thursday – From 7 April our Assisted gym sessions at Portway Lifestyle Centre will be from 10am to 12noon. You can attend gym sessions on both Tuesday and Thursday if you wish to.

New activity! Thursday from 7 April from 1.30pm to 3.30pm, Park ride accessible cycle sessions at Sandwell Valley, Salters Lane, West Bromwich B71 4BG. Have a go at riding a tandem, a side-by-side bicycle, an adult tricycle, or stick with a standard cycle if you prefer. If you are attending the morning gym session or need transport from West Bromwich Bus Station to Sandwell Valley, we will help with shared taxis to the venue.

Friday 10.30am to 11.30am – if you aren’t ready to go out yet, or just find it easier to exercise at home, join Wendy for our Zoom based Function Fitness session.  She will work you through seated or standing light exercise.

If you are interested in attending any or all of these sessions, please contact the SVI office by email to info@sandwellvisuallyimpaired.org.uk or call 0121 525 4810.  Please note that the office is only staffed on a part time basis, so if we don’t answer the phone, please leave us a message and we will return your call.
