News from the SVI Office 26 June 2016

Hello SVI members, it's been quite a while since I gave you an update from the SVI office and many of you will know that our Scott left us a few weeks ago for pastures new. He's got a full time job with the FA [Football Association]. To send him off in style with a fond farewell and to wish him all the very best in his new job, we held a tea party for him. Many SVI members came along to show their appreciation of the work he has done for SVI and to say goodbye, we will certainly miss him in the office with his friendly and warm telephone manner and willingness to do the best for members with problems. A collection took place and you all did him proud, he wants to send his thanks and appreciation to you all.

Other things happening recently have been our Learn to Swim, Water Confidence and Swimming programme at the Portway Lifestyle Centre, we're about to extend this to West Bromwich Leisure Centre and if you are interested in learning to swim or returning to swimming, please contact the office. Our instructor and swim buddies are very friendly and helpful, so there's no need to worry about getting in the water no matter what your age or swimming ability.

In last week's Sandwell Talking News there was an article about tandem cycling and I wanted to tell you that we are currently looking at starting up a tandem project. Plans are in hand now however this won't start until next spring but do contact us if you want to know more.

We are busy organising our summer Members Open Meeting on 13 July, which this time is going to be a 'members talk back' session. Please come along and join us and tell us how you
think we have done so far and what you want SVI to do in the future.

A message to you about getting in touch with us. Since Scott left, the office is often unstaffed and for the next ten days I will be away on Annual Leave so the office won't be staffed at all. Please bear with us and leave a message on the answer phone, so that we can get back to you, either on my return, or if more urgent, messages are being picked up by Karen, who will call you back to help you.

Bye to you all until next time.

Kind regards
