News from the SVI office 6 January 2016

A message from Sandra Troth, SVI Development Worker

The Management Committee, staff and volunteers of SVI would like to wish you all a very happy, healthy and prosperous 2016. We are sure that interesting times are ahead for SVI and we will keep you posted.

As I write, we are approaching Twelfth Night and soon the trimmings will be down and packed away for another year…how quickly they seem to come around these days!

The lovely hand-knitted Santa made for us by Pam, one of our STN and SVI's hard working volunteers was won by SVI Active at 60 members Dorothy and Alan Cooper - Santa has been promised a good home and Pam's efforts raised £70 towards SVI's funds. A big thank you to Pam and to everyone who purchased raffle tickets.

Speaking of the Active at 60 group, we all met up for a Twelfth Night lunch on Wednesday 6 January at the Ridgeacre in West Brom.  It was a nice way to end the festive season and a good time was had by all - to find out more about upcoming Active at 60 activities, give us a call.

Recently, SVI sent out details of two activities starting this week coming:

A six week arts course, every Tuesday morning in Oldbury - it's free to attend and if people like it, we will try to get funding for it to continue.

IT workshops, the first of which is already full up but new dates are coming for the end of January and again in February - so if you would like to know more about mobile devices and smart phones, whether you are a complete beginner or someone who uses one already but wants to get more out of them, let us know at the office.

Before I close for this week, thinking of a new year, a new start - why not join our gym sessions at the Portway Lifestyle Centre, every Tuesday morning or Thursday afternoons? Call us to find out more.

Last but certainly not least, I want to say a personal great big thank you to the Sandwell Talking News readers, the volunteers who work so hard behind the scenes to get the talking news out to us every week and to Ray the editor who puts so much work in to the recording and editing every time. The festive edition was great and the interviews from Vera Lynn and Ken Dodd were just right for the time of year.  Thanks to you all, you're a great team.
