Free IT workshops – Wednesday 30 September 2015

Venue: The Deaf Resource Centre, Dagger Lane, West Bromwich B71 4BB

SVI is working in partnership with Action for Blind People’s Online Today project to offer our members the opportunity to learn more about new and exciting IT developments in smart devices, tablets and mobile phones. Find out about accessibility, apps and how smart technology features can make life easier.

We are pleased to welcome SVI’s good friend and IT expert Sunny Bains, who now works for Action for Blind People as their Assistive Technology Co-ordinator in the Midlands. Sunny will be running two IT workshops for us on Wednesday 30 September. You can attend one or both of the workshops.

Morning workshop: 10.30am to 12pm

This will be an opportunity for those of you who are considering getting or have just started with smart devices to discuss accessibility features, learn about apps and smart technology. It will make you aware of what’s available - giving you an opportunity to ask questions and see how the advances in technology could impact your life. This morning session will be of benefit to people who:

  • do not have a smart device
  • are not online
  • are considering upgrading their phone
  • want to investigate if being online or using technology could benefit them.

Afternoon workshop: 1pm to 3pm

This workshop will enable you to spend time discussing individual issues and how to get more from your current device, and to look at setting up a ‘techy’ support group.

The afternoon session will potentially be of benefit to people who:

  • have a smart device and would like to make the most from it
  • are investigating options of upgrading, making use of and/or purchasing a smart phone, tablet or computer
  • may want to discuss apps or get an introduction in to what apps are available
  • would like an opportunity to get hands on trying out accessibility and using some features like voice activation
  • are interested in setting up a technical support group.

You can attend one or both of the workshops, but numbers are limited so don’t delay if you want to attend – book your place by calling the SVI office on 0121 525 4810 or email – don’t forget to tell us which of the workshops you want to attend.
