Eye Health Awareness Week September 2015

Don't turn a blind eye to sight loss

Did you know?

  • 1.8 million people in the UK are living with sight loss. For 53% of these, a simple sight test and new spectacles could really help
  • A sight test can detect early signs of conditions like glaucoma, which can be treated if found soon enough
  • During a sight test, other health conditions such as diabetes or high blood pressure may be detected

The sixth annual National Eye Health Week (NEHW) takes place from 21 – 27 September 2015.

During the week, eye care charities, organisations and health professionals across the UK will join together to promote the importance of eye health, and the need for everyone to have a regular sight test.

What’s happening in Sandwell?

SVI (Sandwell Visually Impaired) is leading a campaign in the local community during National Eye Health week to promote the message about the importance of having regular eye tests.

Between Monday 21 September and Friday 25 September our members and supporters will be out and about around Sandwell.

We will also be advising on how healthy eating and regular exercise can help keep your eyes healthy as well as your body.

Tony Averis, Chair of SVI, said: "We will have a range of information and resources for members of the public to take away, and last year we gave free in-store sight test vouchers out as well. It would be great if you could come along to meet us! Here’s where we’ll be and when:
