SVI members get crafty for Grand Theatre's Magic Carpet

SVI recently welcomed Heath House Art & Craft Studios who held an enjoyable Textiles Workshop on behalf of Wolverhampton Grand Theatre.

Everyone soon got the hang of working with armfuls of yarns and ribbons and we soon had an impressive collection of soft squishy pom poms and textured braids.

Making pom poms

All of the pieces created by SVI members have joined over 200 other local people's textile pieces. These have been made into a huge Aladdin's Magic Carpet which is going on public display in pride of place in the newly refurbished theatre during this December and January.

This wonderful Community Work of Art is being displayed prominently on the main staircase for thousands of theatre visitors to admire.

Pauline Fletcher, Art & Craft Tutor at Heath House Studios said:

"I was really impressed with how quickly everyone picked up the textile techniques and the lovely collection of pieces created in just one afternoon. There was even a pom pom made for Gina's guide dog! Well done, everyone, and a big Thank You for welcoming us and for helping to create this truly wonderful Magic Carpet!"
